One week into "Us"

It's been a week since Charisa hit the shores of NZ. It is good to have her here finally. I have to admit it has taken a little readjustment for both of us to being with each other again after such a long time away from each other.

She of course has made our little box with a roof into more of a home. And that was just in the first 6 hours of her time there. She hauled a small shelf unit, two milk crates and groceries to our place on the bus. She's so cute of course everyone was trying to help her. I wasn't there so don't get mad at me. We also have some candles and we just bought a little stereo today. We were both surprised how much we missed being able to listen to music. The major thing we were looking for was a cheap stereo that had an input for our iPods. We are geeks in that way. Charisa has quite a bit of our CD collection on hers, so we are set for awhile.

We will be renting the sleepout at least until June 2 and then we are hoping to move out. We are thankful for it, but it's teeny and Charisa has not been full able to exorcise her nesting instincts. If things go well with one of finding a job somewhat quickly we would like to buy a place sooner than later. We have been bank shopping. Being such a smaller market here, there doesn't seem to be as much competition between banks. So, they still charge lots of little fees for basic accounts.

This past Friday we met up with the couple I met a couple weeks ago from Vashon Island, Scott and Ann. Friends of theirs from San Francisco also joined us. It was a little American table. We also got together with Scott and Ann on Saturday and went to the little harbor town of Lyttleton. It's just on the other of side of the Port Hills. We went there for the weekly farmers market. They had great produce and other foods. There was a guy there from Chicago selling barbecue sauce in cooperation with a guy from Switzerland selling bratwurst. Happens all the time. We struck up a conversation with the Swiss. He has a friend who is hoping to rent a house for a short term. If things don't happen quickly with buying a place this may be a good option. It's about a 40 minute drive from downtown, but for a short term it might be fun to live way in the country.

A really crazy piece of news. I will be coming to Seattle August 9-19. Our friends Anne and Nate will be getting married then. We were sad we would be missing their wedding and I jokingly said I would photograph it if they bought my airfare. They thought it was a great idea and so here I come. It will be nice to visit so soon. Pray that we can afford to have Charisa come too.

Saturday night was fun. An evangelist from California, Greg Laurie, put on a three day crusade right here in Christchurch. There is an 8000 person arena near our place. They filled it all three nights. There was well over a 1000 people that committed their lives to Christ. It was a very well run event and we were excited to be a part of it. They had some major music artists from the U.S. lead worship and do short sets. This even, as big as it was, is just a part of what God is doing here in NZ. We have met quite a few people from all over the world that have moved here within the past three or so years that believe they were called here because God is doing something big down here. He seems to be drawing people down here, like Charisa and I. After talking to all these people it just confirmed even more that we were supposed to be here. We may not be full blown missionaries, but God did call us down here and it sure is stinking cool to be a part of what He is doing.

I'll get more pictures up later. Unfortunately the cord for our little digital camera is in our container which is still two months away. I just have to bring in my big camera and download some pics.
