I've had a nice couple days in Christchurch since my last post. Saturday evening I was walking through the town square and happened upon a group of churches having an outreach. They were speaking Christian-ese even down here in NZ. I went over and chatted with one of the crew to find out what was going on. He was a nice fellow. I found out that several churches had been basically having church in the square on Saturday nights over the summer and that was the last Saturday. I found out what church he went to. I ended up visiting his church that Sunday evening. It was a pretty small service. I thought I could walk there in 20-30 minutes. Wrong. It was all the way on the other side of town and it took about 45 minutes instead, so I was a bit late. It was a nice group of folks. I talked with the senior pastor. He's just turned 80 and is a ball of energy. Very nice guy. I also chatted with the recently hired youth pastor. Thankfully he gave me a ride downtown. The last bus was a 8:30!
I am having coffee today with a photographer here in Christchurch. I am hoping to work something out to be able to work under him. A paid position would be nice, but even an unpaid internship type of position would be great. A good way to test each other out.
About the photos. The first one is of stage where the speakers and musicians were for the outreach in the square. You can see cylinder shaped piece of art behind. It's a pretty dominant piece in the square. The next is the cathedral through some other large artwork in the square.
