This is an otter that Charisa's mom and dad found in front of their house on the Yakima River. These kinds of things usually happen to the Beaver clan. If you get the chance ask one of them about the frozen river and ducks. Charisa's mom's (Laura) words follow:
Attached are pics of the cutest little river otter molly (dog) and Tom (dad) discovered in a den one our bank while running a couple of weeks ago. It was obviously unweaned. We researched what to feed it & it had no clue when the food was offered. Called wildlife people on state, regional and local levels--theyonly know raptors.so we called molly's opthamologist vet. Her nurse met tom in richland thatevening where she was at a dog training. She took it, gave it nourishment andreports after it revived with saline and offered a bottle, it was driven to Seattle and then put on a plane to san juan islands to a recovery pool there. Each year they receive 4 or 6 or so, and they start a new 'family' with them, then release the group together. this little guy is the first of this year's discoveries and they named him Benton :-)no sign of the rest of his family. The river was up a lot and he may havebeen washed to us. Never know i guess...
